IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Lady Vex’ahlia (Vessar) de Rolo
Species: Half-Elf
Canon: Critical Role, Campaign 1, Vox Machina
Canon Point: Episode 104, after she becomes the Champion of Pelor
Character Age: 28
CRAU: Yes
CRAU Explanation: Vex spent about a year in Folkmore and learned about the way that other worlds work outside of Exandria’s system. She was able to meet elves that don’t hate half-elves and that helped her make peace with a great deal of the way she was raised in Syngorn. She made more friends and learned more about Keyleth (and Henry) and how druidic magic worked, gaining herself about four levels of druid, as well as her canon ranger/rogue cross class. She became a leader among her friends both from home and in Folkmore and as a prominent citizen in the world that gave her a true confidence in herself that will take her at least a decade later for her to earn as the Lady of Whitestone. She faced a lot of ugly truths about how selfish she can be and how petty and wrathful she is in her effort to protect those she loves.
Character Appearance: Here
Powers and Abilities: Vex is a half-elven ranger (beast mastery archtype) and assassin rogue hybrid. Her race gives her the ability to resist charm magic and she's unable to put to sleep. It also allows her to see 60 feet ahead in the dark. As a ranger, she has the ability to better track demons and dragons as foes and does better tracking, foraging, and navigating through forests and the Underdark (this would be for underground cities/lairs). Because she's specified her training to be a beast master, she can use her bear, Trinket, in battle to fight for her.

Because she's also taken some training as an assassination rogue, she has a better opportunity to actually hit foes who haven't noticed her yet and if there is another target that her target is focusing on (even if it's poor Trinket).

Spell Casting: 1st-level: Cure Wounds, Hail of Thorns, Hunter's Mark, Speak with Animals
2nd-level: Lesser Restoration, Locate Object, Pass without Trace, Protection from Poison, Spike Growth
3rd-level: Conjure Animals, Conjure Barrage, Lightning Arrow
4th-level: Grasping Vine, Conjure Woodland Beings
Primeval Awareness: Lets her check to see if there are supernatural creatures near by up to 1 mile
Fenthras Specific abilities: Bramble shot (allows her to grapple a foe) and Oracle shot (sends her vision through the arrow until it lands or hits something)
Blessing of the Dawnfather - Ability to channel the power of Pelor once every seven days
* Wings of a Legend - She has a set of wings that allow her to fly, in shades of gold and green like a goldfinch
* Golden Solar Aura - When her wings pop out, her head is surrounded in an aura of pure sunlight that obstructs her face, like Pelor
* Four levels of druid, allowing her to use druid cantrips and to shapeshift into animals, since she’s a Circle of the Moon druid
What Did Your Character Wish For? A way to save her twin from being taken from her after Vecna’s defeat
What Potion Did They Receive? Cerulean Potion
Did They Drink It? Nope

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon? Or who is someone they miss the most? This is actually a three-fold question. Vex, being a fraternal twin with Vax and the younger at that, has never spent a long time without constant contact with her brother. There are a few times in canon that they’re apart, but they haven’t really been apart in their lives. Even in Folkmore, they arrived together, even though they were from different points in time, they were whole. However, her heart holds a great, terrible, wonderful, selfish and selfless love for Percival, her husband, her life, her love, her other half in truth. And while both of them are super important to her, there is yet another man in her life that she can’t live without for too long and that is her bear companion and first child, Trinket. She rescued him as a cub and has raised him and loved him for the whole of his life and without him, she is broken in a way that she hasn’t truly had to face, aside from a few sad weeks in Folkmore.

2. What are they most afraid of? Vex actually terrified of being rejected and abandoned. With the way that she and Vax were sent to Syngorn and left to suffer the disdain and loneliness of the elves until she and Vax escaped. There have been other times where she’s been made to face the fact that one day Vax and Percy will die, sooner that she wants and she will be alone, but that doesn’t mean that she isn’t terrified of that day. She just knows that it will happen and is slowly trying to make her peace, but that doesn’t mean she wants to give her brother to the Raven Queen before they’re even thirty years old.

3. What is their weakness? Emotionally, mentally and physically? Vex’s weakness is being alone. She’s never really had to be completely alone, except for the time where she was kidnapped before meeting Trinket. She doesn’t really know what to do with herself if she’s completely separated from everyone and has a habit of panicking, despite being one the most practical members of Vox Machina. That’s both mentally and emotionally. Physically, however, she has almost no strength and she has a habit of failing anything that requires physical strength, if she can’t use Trinket.

4. What would make them happiest? What would make Vex happiest is if she’s surrounded by all of her friends and able to live without having to fight and able to be financially secure

5. What’s their type for a lover? Vex loves strong, stubborn, smart personalities that are able to match her energy and vigor for life. It doesn’t have to be the same exact way, because that would be boring, but she’s had two canonical love interests and they’ve both been able to match Vex’s passion for life and for learning while making sure that they’re keeping a balance with her vices.

Canon Abilities: Vex’s Ability section
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Retractable wings, of a golden-green hue that resemble sun-dappled tree tops, allowing her to fly since she doesn’t have her broom;
Role Reasoning: Vex’ahlia is a hero of Tal’dorei and Exandria. While she has at times done questionable things, she always strives to help those who are weaker than her. She has dedicated a great deal of her time to saving others, even if it has not a lot of personal reward, but she does like a bit of shiny. While she’s given the title of Grand Mistress of the Grey Hunt by Percival, she takes her duty seriously. She has died twice by her canon point to retrieve items that would help the party destroy the remaining four dragons of the Chroma Conclave. She’s put herself in danger to save members of the party—most dramatically was her saving Grog while flying on her broom in the middle of battle.
★ Personality ★

  • What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them? The most traumatic experience of Vex’s life is probably the time spent in Syngorn. She and Vax lived with their mother the first ten years of their lives and they were loved and loved their mother so deeply. When their father took them away, they were taken to a place where they were ignored, scorned, and treated like dirt for the simple fact their mother was a human while their father was elven nobility. And while she used the education she got from him and his rank, she never forgot the way she was treated there. And as a teen, she and Vax left to go back to their mother, only to find that she’d been killed when the Ancient red dragon, Thordak the Cinder King, attacked. It was then that they both swore revenge against the dragon and dedicated her life and skills to his downfall, while solidifying all the hate she had for her father, Syldor Vessar.

  • What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why? Vex’s relationships with her twin, her parents, Percy and Vox Machina as a whole define who she really is. Vex has trouble really knowing who she is without the part of her that has always been with her twin brother, Vax’ildan. They’ve done nearly everything together, and even when they fight, they are so intermeshed that it takes them falling in love to really learn to live without one another all the time. The love she has for her mother and the absolute heartbreak that was first her and Vax’s removal from Brydon to Syngorn and then returning to find her mother dead led Vex on the mission that was vengeance and retribution on Thordak, the Cinder King. She also resents and despises her father for taking her and her brother from a loving home with their mother to a place where they were ignored at best and scorned regularly for being half-elves. She acknowledges the education he gave them, but there becomes a point in time where she tells him that she wants nothing to do with him and that if she could return every trace of his blood in her body, she’d do so without a second thought. Percy has brought love and romance into her life, letting her be changed by and to change another for the better. He’s a confidant and lover that she didn’t expect to be worthy of, but he’s shown her that she’s more than she gave herself credit for. Vox Machina as a whole has taught Vex that there’s more to life than hatred and self-preservation.

  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise. Vex knows that she still holds grudges and has a hard time forgiving others. It’s why she’s carved the Elven word “Sinaeth” into Fenthras to remind herself to practice forgiveness of others. In fact, she’s the one who also reminds Percy on the regular that they need to forgive others for THEMSELVES. She’s also aware that her reliance on Vax could be used against her, and actually has caused both of them to pledge themselves in the service of The Raven Queen in different aspects, but she’s not sure how to fix it, considering they are twins. Their world has grown outside of just the two of them and she’s sure that it will continue to grow, but Vax is a part of her that she will NEVER give up.

  • Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind? See answer to question above. :) But, in truth, Vex is capable of it, but it’s a struggle for her to do so. It wasn’t until she really got a mirror in her face with Saundor in the Feywild that made her rethink a lot of her life. It’s the reason she carved the Elven word to forgive on her bow as a constant reminder that she can still change and forgive others. Between watching the way that hatred swallowed up Saundor in the Feywild, actually poisoning a beautiful section of that plane and the way it nearly took over Percy, she knew she had to try to be less vengeful and she tries her best to make sure the rest of Vox Machina also can come back from hate.

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already? Vex has actually given so much for those around her, including pledging to slay a powerful Demon Prince for the Raven Queen to bring her brother back to life. She’s actually died while trying to retrieve on of the Vestiges of Divergence to help slay the dragons of the Chroma Conclave, and then later while fighting Raishan the Deceiver to complete the deaths of all the Conclave and save all of Exandria from the grasp of the five flying monsters. And while she loves money because it gives prestige and power, she knows it won’t last and can do so much good. She would give every last copper in her possession to make sure those she loves are safe and happy.
